Federer On Thanksgiving And OWS

Thanksgiving – Pilgrims reject “Occupy Wall Street” wealth redistribution

By William J. Federerh/t https://www.embassyinstitute.org

As Thanksgiving nears, one wonders what the Pilgrims would have thought about “Occupy Wall Street” and its effort to redistribute wealth.

The Pilgrims were originally part of the Virginia Company and were ruled by a set of bylaws that set up a communal system for the first seven years.

In this system, all capital and profits remained “in ye common stock”:

“Anno: 1620. July 1. 1. The adventurers & planters do agree that every person that goeth being aged 16 years & upward…be accounted a single share

3. The persons transported & ye adventurers shall continue their joint stock & partnership together, ye space of 7 years…during which time, all profits & benefits that are got by trade, traffic, trucking, working, fishing, or any other means of any person or persons, remain still in ye common stock until ye division…

5. That at ye end of ye 7 years, ye capital & profits, viz. the houses, lands, goods and chattels, be equally divided betwixt ye adventurers, and planters

10. That all such persons as are of this colony, are to have their meat, drink, apparel, and all provision out of ye common stock & goods.

Pilgrim Governor William Bradford wrote in his Of Plymouth Plantation, that sharing everyone’s profits & benefits equally “in ye common stock,” regardless of how hard each individual worked, was a failure:

The failure of that experiment of communal service, which was tried for several years, and by good and honest men, proves the emptiness of the theory of Plato and other ancients, applauded by some of later times, – that the taking away of private property, and the possession of it in community, by a commonwealth, would make a state happy and flourishing; as it they were wiser than God.”

William Bradford continued:

“For in this instance, community of property (so far as it went) was found to breed much confusion and discontent; and retard much employment which would have been to the general benefit and comfort.

For the young men who were most able and fit for service objected to being forced to spend their time and strength in working for other men’s wives and children, without any recompense.

The strong man or the resourceful man had no more share of food, clothes, etc., than the weak man who was not able to do a quarter the other could. This was thought injustice.

The aged and graver men, who were ranked and equalized in labor, food, clothes, etc., with the humbler and younger ones, thought it some indignity and disrespect  to them.”

The women did not like this communistic plan as well, as William Bradford wrote:

“As for men’s wives who were obliged to do service for other men, such as cooking, washing their clothes, etc., they considered it a kind of slavery, and many husbands would not brook it…”

William Bradford added:

“If (it were thought) all were to share alike, and all were to do alike, then all were on an equality throughout, and one was as good as another; and so, if it did not actually abolish those very relations which God himself has set among men, it did at least greatly diminish the mutual respect that is so important should be preserved amongst them.

Let none argue that this is due to human failing, rather than to this communistic plan of life in itself. I answer, seeing that all men have this failing in them, that God in His wisdom saw that another plan of life was fitter for them.”

William Bradford also wrote:

So they began to consider how to raise more corn, and obtain a better crop than they had done, so that they might not continue to endure the misery of want.

At length after much debate, the Governor, with the advice of the chief among them, allowed each man to plant corn for his own household, and to trust themselves for that; in all other things to go on in the general way as before. So every family was assigned a parcel of land, according to the proportion of their number…

This was very successful. It made all hands very industrious, so that much more corn was planted than otherwise would have been by any means the Governor or any other could devise, and saved him a great deal of trouble, and gave far better satisfaction.

The women now went willing into the field, and took their little ones with them to plant corn, while before they would allege weakness and inability, and to have compelled them would have been thought great tyranny and oppression.”

This Thanksgiving, as we partake of the bounty that the Almighty has provided, let us not just recall the Pilgrims’ historic meal, but let us recall the economic wisdom that helped the Pilgrims to produce their bountiful harvest.

Why Can’t Chuck Get His Business Off The Ground

Two clear differences between Republicans / Conservatives and Obama / Democrats / Liberals… …the folks on the right want to stop the out-of-control exponential growth of regulations… …Obama and his minions want more and more!

Getting Cained

Bill Clinton was accused of rape, sexual assault, and impeached for lying under oath about an affair with Monica Lewinsky.

Liberal Media?  Crickets.

Barack Obama wrote a book in which he admitted using cocaine and marijuana

Liberal Media? Crickets.

Someone leaks to Polit(bur)ico that Herman Cain was accused of sexual harassment in 1992.

Liberal Media? ON FIRE!!

However, to date, no one has identified the larger problem that has surfaced in light of the Herman Cain Sexual Harassment kerfuffle:

Herman Cain - 01

The real problem? No one in Cain’s campaign has enough political prowess to think, This story will come out; we better get in front of it; we better time the release; we better choreograph the response; we can make this work for us.’

No. Mr. Cain’s staff did none of that, and it appears possible that the release of this news came through a supporter of another Republican in the Presidential Primary contest.

How adolescent is Mr. Cain to think that something such as this would not come out?  How juvenile is his staff to not prepare for its broadcast? What other skeletons will jar his campaign?

Sadly, while we really like the straight-talking Cain, he may be ripe for more scandals… …as a third sexual harassment accuser is coming to light.  But, beyond that, his ‘chops‘ continue to be less than impressive.

I am no fan of the politics of this company’s owner.  But, your humble blogger was amused by a design from T-Shirt Hell today:

I may not already hate the next president, but I do hate the fact that I don’t have a good Conservative, well-versed, intelligent candidate to get behind!

Occupy Pepper Spray

The Evil Capitalists Big City Democrat Administrations are cracking down on the #OccupyWherever gatherings across the nation requiring them to move out of their Occupied Parks for reasons of Safety and Health… …and the liberals neighbors are even sick of them.

It’s sad. On many subjects, I wholeheartedly agree with their concerns and issues… …especially crony capitalism.  However, most of them don’t even know that crony capitalism is the real problem – not the free market.

Here are some of my favorite stories about the movement:

Unemployment Benefits Stimulate The Economy — Not So Much

The knee-jerk and common sense reaction — to Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat’s claim that Unemployment Payments stimulate the economy — is, correctly, to roll your eyes and assert that it is nothing more than a politically motivated claim.

h/t cascadepolicy.org

A few short years ago, in 2004-2005, the Democrats were complaining about how bad the situation was for the unemployed under President Bush when the Unemployment Rate was 4% – 5% — not the 9% – 10% under the Obama regime.  That visit to the history books alone answers the question as to whether or not the claim of its stimulative affect is ideologically motivated.

But, alas, a good Conservative / Tea Partier wants the facts, and here are a slew of them from the Cascade Policy Institute — Oregon’s Premier Policy Think Tank.

Here’s the scoop on the stimulative negative affect of Unemployment Insurance.

Wisconsin Recall Elections: Support Needed Now!

Your friends, the Soros funded move-on.org, are working hard to recall the Senator-Statesmen of Wisconsin who bravely stood fast in the face of massive protests and pressure to do what’s right for their State — and the nation.  We just saw a massive capitulation in Congress where politicians, not statesmen, considered there careers first, and the American people, last.

Here’s the e-mail they sent this week:

Dear MoveOn member,

How good would it feel to see a big win for progressives right now—and a devastating defeat for the tea party?
Democrats in Wisconsin are on the verge of just that. And with just six days left in their campaign to recall the Republican state senators who aided and abetted Gov. Walker’s vicious attacks on working families, they need our help.
Polling released yesterday shows that it’s going to come down to the wire. Democrats are tied or slightly ahead in all six of the races1, but conservative groups like Citizens United and Club for Growth are targeting them with last-minute ads.2
We’ve got one last ad campaign ready to go, but we need $150,000 to launch it. Can you chip in so we can win these races, show Republicans nationwide that attacking working folks has consequences, and show Democrats that fighting for working families is a winning strategy?
Click here to chip in $5 on ActBlue.
Too many Democrats in Washington are refusing to stand up and fight for working families. But when the radical Republican attacks started in Wisconsin this winter, progressives fought back, and Democrats had their backs.
Thousands took over the state capitol, and hundreds of thousands marched on the streets of Madison. And rather than dismissing that energy, or ignoring it, the Wisconsin 14 left the state for weeks, at great personal cost, to stop Gov. Walker’s radical policies.
So with just six days left in this battle, we need to show that progressives can win—not just to stop Gov. Walker, but also to send a message across America that if you fight for us, we’ll fight for you. We’re partnering with the Progressive Change Campaign Committee and Democracy for America to run one last round of ads, but we need $150,000 to launch the campaign.
Click below to chip in via ActBlue to fund one last round of ads:

Thanks for all you do.

–Daniel, Julia, Elena, Mark, and the rest of the team

The Left is using the big pockets of major donors and soliciting for donations from average Joe’s to advance their big government, big union agenda.  Unions are pouring in money.

If you supported the Statesmen in Wisconsin, now is the time to put your money where your mouth is.  Provide some financial support to continue to loosen the stranglehold that Public Service Unions already have on your pocketbook.

I found a group called CERS (Committee to Elect a Republican Senate) that is accepting donations.  There are direct links to the candidates.

Help. Now!

Obama World: EPA Assualt On Property Rights

From Phil Kerpen at American’s for Prosperity:

President Obama wants to control all the land and all the water in the United States.

Legislation that would have deleted the word “navigable” from the federal Clean Water Act and given the EPA and Army Corps of Engineers jurisdiction over every drop of moisture in the country crashed and burned last Congress, ending the 36-year congressional career of its lead sponsor, Jim Oberstar, in the process.

But Obama’s EPA, as usual, won’t take no for an answer, and is now attempting to ignore two Supreme Court decisions, commonsense, and the American people and vastly expand federal Clean Water Act jurisdiction via a guidance document.  A bipartisan group of 170 members of Congress told them not to, but they are doing it anyway.

If the EPA and Army Corps succeed, they can exercise effective control over all land and water in the United States.  The green groups are fired up and pouring comments into the docket supporting this outrageous power grab, and we need to fight back.

The docket closes on July 31st, there is no time to spare. Please take action today!

AFP is working to protect us from out-of-control regulatory advances, here from the EPA, and from the FCC and their attack on the freedom and free market of the Internet.  I was fortunate to attend an AFP briefing early this year regarding the FCC Internet takeover, and the information provided was invaluable!

I urge you to support their efforts by subscribing to their informative e-mails and using their simple service to contact your Congressmen (et al) to weigh in on the varying issues of the day.

Their e-mail above provides a link to a simple method by which to contact, in this case, the EPA and the Army Corps of Engineers.  Here is a sample of such an e-mail:

The first time you will be asked to provide the same information you’d be asked to provide on your Congressman or Senator’s web site.  For future mailings, you’ll only need to provide your e-mail address.

It couldn’t be easier!

In this case the FCC is trying to usurp the Constitution and the Congress by asserting power it has not been granted.  Should sound familiar after Obama posed that he wouldn’t mind if he could just make law without that pesky Constitution and Congress.

$17 Trillion In Federal Debt…. …Then What?!?!

If Congress approves a $2.5 Trillion increase in the Debt Limit (which should be called a Tax Increase), what happens when we get to $17 Trillion?

We KNOW Congress will spend that $2.5 Trillion.

Will the Republicans suddenly grow a backbone then?  When we hit $17 Trillion during an election year, will the Republicans actually force the Democrats hand?  Or, will they capitulate when the Democrats and State Run Media beat them over the heads again?!?!

h/t http://politicalhumor.about.com/bio/Daniel-Kurtzman-8621.htm

Obama doesn’t want to balance the budget.  His budget, voted down 97-0 in the Senate ADDED $10 Trillion over the next decade.  The Democrats will NEVER balance the budget!!

The American voters know that and that’s why there was a 60-Seat shift in the House.  That November 2010 vote was to STOP this out of control spending.

Now is the time to force the Democrats into a balanced budget by refusing to up the Debt Limit!

Stand Firm!

Be a statesman and not a politician… …because a vote for the Gang of Six compromise will be the end of your political career anyway!
